Cascina Tavijn - 2018 Teresa
Nadia Verrua is a young winemaker in Scurzolengo, on the Hills of Monferrato. Since 1908 Nadia's family have been cultivating grapes and making wines for family consumption, but it wasn't until 1998 that Nadia – with the help of her father Ottavio – decided to bottle and sell the wine under the name of Cascina Tavijn. Tavijn comprises 5ha of vineyards and 2ha of hazelnut trees, all organically grown (certified since 2007). In the cellar, Nadia works with as little intervention as possible and with only native varieties: Grignolino, Ruche, Barbera, Freisa, Slarina and Baratuciat.
"Teresa is a pure Ruché, dedicated to Nadia's Mother Teresa. After the manual harvest with careful selection, the grapes are destemmed, and spontaneous fermentation takes place in steel containers with maceration on the skins for about 2 months, to finish for over a year in an old barrel. An authentic and true Monferrato which smells of freshly pressed grapes, cut grass and wild blackberries. A rich and light sip at the same time, concentrated and deep with a rustic finish. A freshly squeeze countryside smell in the glass. Nadia, in her early years, produced wines under the region's DOC and DOCG labels, but has progressively abandoned these designations to free herself of their limitations" – Giorgio de Maria
