Cascina Pugnane - 2015 Barolo Pugnane
There’s a luscious density to this Barolo, which sweeps you up in silken swathes of dark cherries, dusty tannins, woody herbs, fresh undergrowth, florals, liquorice, inky fruit and savoury delights. So much length; it goes on and on through a labyrinth of layers. The more air you give it, the more it gives you back. Dust off your decanter. A little edgy, perhaps, but still classic enough for your dad.
The Ghisolfi family have been growing grapes and making wine in Barolo since the 1600s. Yep, quite a while. This 'Pugnane' Barolo is made from 'The Hill of Pugnane', a slope of land coveted since ancient Rome for favourable position from a geographic, environmental and military point of view. The family planted the vines on this slope prior to World War Two.
