2019 Boo Grenache
Lisanne van Son is a sommelier turned [very talented] winemaker who accumulated a bunch of winemaking experience in Europe before returning to Australia and working with South Australian legends James Erskine, Tom Shobbrook, the Brodericks, Commune of Buttons, Borachio and Limus. She is impressive – a winemaker's winemaker. Her 2019 'Boo' Grenache features fruit from Fiona Wood's Tullah vineyard in McLaren Flat, de-stemmed by hand and macerated for 5 days before being pressed and rested for 15 months. Light in colour and weight, this is a sprightly wine that seems to defy gravity. Orange peel, fresh red fruits, savoury notes and forest floor wrap around each other like a double helix, twirling and whirling with energy to burn. Serve with a slight chill and let it breathe (listen carefully – you might actally hear it breathing). BOO!
