Bertrand - 2019 Julienas

"The best Julienas from Yann yet, perfumed and expressive of violets and Portello with a flinty edge. A wine of structure and balance, it dips between prettiness and fruit to tannins, all backed by a level of freshness that keeps you going back for more. Fruit sourced from one hectare, 55 year old vines on white clay with crumbly schist and sandstone. 14 to 18 days maceration, elevage for 8 months in 225 litre barrels of 7 years plus age.

The Bertrand estate was established in the 1950s by Louis Bertrand, located in a special part of Beaujolais called ‘Grand-pré’. A section that straddles the crus of both Fleurie and Morgon, rich in sandy granitic soil. Bertrand produce estate wines which are uniquely different even though all the vines are in the same area (farmed biodynamically). The complexity that can be found in the vineyard is demonstrated each year through these different cuvees." – Importer notes
