Beast - 2019 001 White Blend
A collaboration between two long time South Australian friends, winemaker Sam Smith and visual artist Lucas Croall. The wines are based on a series of works that Lucas created during art school, and Sam, ever the inventive, has created wines that reflect their vibrancy and energy. Sam is known for his experimental wine making methods, often infusing the ferments with Australian botanicals to remarkable effect. He famously made a "creaming soda" wine once.
This wine is Greco, Gewurtztraminer and Arneis, three Euro-centric varietals that grow happily in the Riverlands. They sat together on their skins for two months, imparting deep texture and sky-rocketing aromats; consequently almost tangerine in hue. Interestingly, in order to "naturally" brighten this wine, Sam adds fresh finger lime caviar to the ferment. It is vibrant, unique and exciting. Only 666 bottles made, all without sulphites, too.
