We love a limited release, a little creative flex from our favourite makers. The Trials & Exceptions series from Archie Rose seeks to uncover exceptional single casks and small batch trials. They found themselves musing on what existing spirits could pair exceptionally with whisky and settled on vermouth. Maidenii Vermouth, an iconic Australian maker, was a natural partner for the product. The process saw casks that matured Maidenii Nocturne filled with Rye Malt Whisky to impart notes of botanically infused Australian Vin Amer and the subtle spice of rye, offering a flavourful intersection of grapefruit zest, plum, cloves and curry leaf with just a hint of bitterness and a long and complex finish. Archie Rose has been figuring out whisky production for a fair few years now, and it is really turning an illustrious and exciting corner. Based in Rosebery, Sydney, they started out crafting vodka and gin to much acclaim, serving them in their world class bar on site. Whisky came later, what with ageing parameters, but has now garnered the same reputation with many international whisky awards under their belts. Go visit the distillery! It’s gorgeous.
