Cirelli - 2019 Bianco
Francesco Cirelli's beautiful 22-hectare farm in the far east of Abruzzo (8km from the sea) is surrounded by national parks and mountains. The farm is a mix of native vines, olive trees, fruits, vegetables and animals, with everything tended organically in respect to the natural cycles and rhythms of nature. The soils are classic coastal nutrient rich. Rising up against a sea of mass-produced Abruzzo wine, Francesco’s adoption of organic practices and his use of Tuscan clay amphorae creates wines that are delicate and gentle, juxtaposing the dominant Montepulciano d'Abruzzo style.
This Trebbiano has a plentiful palate overflowing with tropical Summer fruits, tempered with really intriguing oxidative-salty-mineral-nutty-chalky-savoury notes that keep you drinking, thinking, drinking. Nice on its own, but also ace with food (try it with a white-based pizza – bellissimo!).
