Terpin - 2018 Bianco Sivi Pinot Grigio
Franco and Daniella Terpin create quirky amber wines out of Friuli-Venezia Giulia in the far north-eastern corner of Italy (steps from Slovenia). In Terpin’s organically farmed vineyards, non-traditional grape varieties grow on ponca, a marl specific to the region. After undergoing long macerations, the wines are aged in barriques, stainless and in bottle before being released.
This 2018 Bianco Sivi comprises Pinot Grigio that spent 3 days macerating on skins and 8 months spontaneous fermentation before some aging in steel. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, untinkered and unsulphured. The wine feels timeless and nostalgic, like a distant dream or memory that creeps into cognition without fully revealing itself. Rustic aromas of orange pith, tangelo zest , bitter orange and dried papaya give way to a zippy, textural gulp of Autumn sunshine. It's a mouth mosaic of ripe grapefruits, sweet spices, green herbs, citrus, florals, earth and malt. This wine is basically a meal. Saluti
