Ichiro's Malt Mizunara Wood Reserve Japanese Whisky

Bottled in 2010, this bottle o'gold was crafted by Ichiro Akuto. It's a vatting of different (un-named) single malts aged in Japanese Mizunara oak. Mizunara has a highly distinctive aromatic spectrum — the Japanese say that it smells of temples; namely the sandalwood incense that fills Zen temples. More recently, however, scientific research has spotlighted a distinctive coconut aroma associated with Mizunara barrels. Science aside, the nose of this silken whisky is toasty and honeyed, spicy and woody, citrus and sweet, with glimmers of sugar and grapefruit. The palate is soft and slow to start, gliding into a steady melody of rye, peach, toffee and spiciness, with mouthwatering acidity. Treat yourself, go on.
