2020 Commune Rose
With an ever-shrinking pool of international vintage staff as a result of the pandemic, this year the Buttons decided to pick the Nebbiolo early to experiment with a lighter bodied wine. It was picked in the first week of April and crushed as whole bunches underfoot and left on-skins for two days. The wine was fermented in three puncheons and aged on full lees for 11 months. It's a bright and intense wine with an explosion of red fruits: cherries, cranberries and raspberry. Juicy and crunchy, but not just for glugging – its strength is in the varietal complexity and terrific balance of acid and tannin.
