Jilly - 2019 Black Mountain Pinot Noir
This wine is very special to Jared Dixon, and rightly so. The vineyard is the highest in Australia. Yes, all of Australia. That's high. It is the first site that he has managed himself, so he is now intrinsically linked to each bud, each berry, each grain of soil the vines sit in. The soils are black like the road, full of asphalt, lending to an incredible crispness in the palate rarely seen elsewhere. Cool nights means higher acidity, brightness, whirlwinds of earth, spice, fruit. It can be a bit of a surprising wine, leaning away from classic, but becoming deservedly it's own thing, in its own right.
