2019 Petit Chablis
This is one of the more serious and nuanced expressions of Petit Chablis in Australia. Full stop no returns.
The exceptional fruit comes from a single 2.5 hectare site in Biene, just outside Chablis, on the way to Auxerre. It has a south-west orientation and lies on Kimmeridgian soils (as opposed to the higher Portlandian soils on which much Petit is grown). The grapes are naturally fermented and vinified in large vats of 32-100 hectolitres. It’s a fleshy, ripe wine with lovely texture and pulpy, peachy fruit. A dash of Granny Smith, too. The finish has a whisper of creamy lees and delightful tang. A Cote d’Or kind of Chablis!
