Le Clousot is a Trousseau and the 2020 is full of bounce and vigour and a charming comparison of site and energy compared to the Vigne de Louis cuvee. It is made in exactly the same way as the Grands Vergers but the fruit is sourced from the youngest vines that Michel owns. Great structure, long and windy like unfurling a snake skin, but still quite juicy, not like a snake skin. Ha. Like most of the Jura icons we love to stock here in the shop, Michel Gahier is a purist - a champion of old school Jura winemaking and sustainable viticulture. For many wine folk, his wines were their a-ha! moment, sitting and swirling in a bistro long ago. Jura wines really are a sensory whirlwind of place, presence and time. Michel lives in the centre of the village of Montigny-les-Arsures, near the central town of Arbois. It’s widely accepted that Montigny is regarded as the finest terroir for the Trousseau grape in the Jura, making Michel’s reds a must drink. The whites have a freshness to them, they are not made oxidatively but they glitter with that Jura mountain glow. Like looking at a snow capped mountain in the distance, the sun just coming up over it.
