Accordini Vignetto -2015 'Il Fornetto' Amarone
Anyone who follows the three B’s – Barolo, Bordeaux and Burgundy – must not limit themselves. They’ve missed a very important part of the alphabet in formidable wine making regions. Enter the ring, Amarone. The use of large format oak is very present in this wine, and the raisined, sun dried grapes lean into richness and spiciness. Opulent! Dried fig, black plum, ash, earl grey tea, vanilla, dark chocolate. Leather, smoke. It is a whopping 16.5% alcohol, as a lot of Amarone’s are due to their sugar content before fully fermented, but the perfume and concentration of this wine doesn’t distract from it. Big Christmas wine.
The history of wine house Stefano Accordini is quite deep and sprawling, much like many estates within the prestigious Veneto region. They were landowners for many years, and then began to engage in winemaking, leading to some of the finest examples of Amarone we’ve ever seen. Stefano is assisted by his wife Giuseppina and their two sons - Justin and Daniel. Each family member has clear objectives in managing the company. The family estate is located in the heart of Valpolicella, in a place called Bessole and stretches over 4 hectares.
