Fragments is mostly Grenache, which we see in its bright acidity and rich red fruit, but gusseted with smaller "fragments" of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Counoise, and Clairette Rose, the latter being a mutation of the white grape Clairette. This wine redefines the word luscious. No one has tasted luscious until this. Just thinking about it makes our eyes go all dreamy and sleepy, like sinking into silk sheets. Stephane moved to Chateauneuf-du-Pape in 1931, taking over a vineyard there and starting to vinify. It wasn’t until the 60’s that he could take fruit from his own vines he planted, around the same time his son took over. Raymond’s son, in 1999, took over, at the ripe old age of 22. What! This was made by a 22 year old? Goodness. The vineyards are managed biodynamically and are home to the key varieties of Chateauneuf, they are rich, expressive and as we said, luscious.
