The story of Pepus dates back to 2003, when Miquel Tapias, the fourth generation owner of the family business Espinaler, decided to create a younger sibling brand of fish and shellfish preserves. He named it 'Pepus', paying homage to a fisherman from Vilassar de Mar – a close friend of the Tapias family.
